Deborah Abs is a 68-year-old retiree who felt like her hairstyle needed a pick-me-up as a treat for Mother’s Day.

Deborah has extremely fine, fragile and limp hair and struggles with building volume and body when styling it. She has always had very short hair and tried to grow it out but finds it hard to manage as it ends up looking lifeless and flat. I wanted to refresh her look by adding more texture to her cut, all while maintain some length for softness.

I cleansed her hair with Oribe Silverati shampoo and conditioner, then layered the mid-lengths and ends with Oribe Hair Alchemy Fortifying Serum as a leave-in to help reinforce fragile hair. I started by cutting the perimeter of her hair into a diagonal back shape to maintain length through the sides and back, while framing her face with a full fringe. I then incorporated short layers throughout the hair, especially on the top and crown, to create height and volume she was missing. To customize and texturize the cut I used a razor to carve out random pieces around the ears, fringe and nape areas, creating a shaggy and undone finish.

Before styling I applied Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse for exaggerated body and structure, then blow dried the hair by hand and a round brush on top.  To complete the style, I sprayed Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray throughout her hair, along with a few mists of Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder Spray at the crown, for texturizing root-lift that instantly adds buildable grip and style.

Deborah has beautiful bone structure and lovely green eyes. To enhance her eye shape, I applied a nude cream shadow to her eyelids, lined her eyes using black waterproof liner then coated her lashes with black mascara. These three simple steps instantly help to define and draw attention to her eyes. I then evened out her complexion, added a hint of bronzer and dabbed on a cool-pink cream blush to the apples of her cheeks to create a supple and natural radiance to her skin. To complete the look, I applied a bright-pink, long-wearing lipstick to her mouth.
