This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

The City of Arcata encourages community members to participate in the worldwide initiative known as Plastic Free July®.

When plastics and their byproducts pollute cities, oceans, and waterways, it causes health problems for us all. Most plastic waste in the United States is landfilled, downcycled, incinerated or exported to other countries, and while recycling plastic helps, it is not a solution for plastic pollution. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency estimated that just 8.7% of plastics generated are recycled. The best way to decrease plastic pollution is to avoid the use of disposable plastic as often as possible, and Plastic Free July® encourages households to use less plastic, adopt long-term environmentally friendly habits and make the world a cleaner place.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a dramatic increase in the use of plastic, making it even more important to be mindful about how much plastic we use. Experts have determined that clean and dry reusables are able to be safely used during the COVID-19 pandemic (https://tinyurl.com/reusablesafety). The City of Arcata Environmental Services Department has some tips for community members on how to reduce the use of disposable plastics:

The. Democrat Party as epitomized by Arcata, a party of affluent white progressives who care about the Earth while everyone else suffers under their thumb. Hey dummies, ever think the poor and middle class normal people are worried about inflation and commodity prices and could careless about your phony virtue signaling ploys to save Gaia when Gaia is doing just fine. If plastic is cheaper, it will be used in times like this by those who cannot afford Tesla’s, solar panel upgrades, soy lattes from Starbucks, the latest iPhone, the latest shiny chrome refrigerator, and vacations to France. Let them eat freedom fries!

Doesn’t the DNC have far more non-white voters than the RNC? Issue like plastic pollution have to be addressed by law, because most of us are too busy or too poor to be able to avoid buying plastic.Avoidng plastic consumption needs to be handled with regulation, so that the cost of a plastic item reflects the real cost of plastic to our environment. It is true that almost everything that can do to be “green” without significant sacrifices to quality of life are expensive. Look at how the proposed changes to South Broadway will impact the lives of the working class (and increase carbon emissions). But then again I dont hear anyone on the right pushing for economic equality or workers rights.

Oh darn! It’s too late! July is almost over and I’ve already used a lot of disposable plastics! To top it off, I plan to continue using said plastics regularly! The only good environmentalist is the one who minds their own business and leaves everyone else alone. If you don’t want to use plastic, don’t. I have no plans to join the mostly ignorant environmental wacko group.

All these things are forced on the bottom feeders, produced by the corporations.
